SLAY marries improv, theater, monologues, inspiration from streaming TTRPGs, and the tech tools that we've all had to embrace more since the beginning of pandemic life last year to create a unique and exciting piece of live-streamed digital theater. The show opens Friday May 7th, and runs every Friday in May and June at Twitch.tv/RipleyImprov.

The premise of the show is layered: the audience clicks on the show's Twitch link, and gets a peek inside a shadowy monster-hunting government agency's computer database. One actor serves as a ringleader of sorts for the performers, taking up the role of a Monster Profiler under the employ of the secret government agency D.O.R.M. (Department of Occult Risk Management). The Profiler records a video report of her process in assembling a complete picture of a new monster each week-- and that's where the rest of the ensemble comes in. 

The cast plays Monster Hunting Agents contracted by D.O.R.M. to hunt down and eliminate things that go bump in the night. The audience is seeing video reports of their adventures in the field. But here's the catch: it's all improv, and no one in the cast or crew knows what the monster will be or look like until the show is over. That's because each Monster Hunting Agent's top secret vlogging will build the monster from scratch, piece by piece, based on an initial suggestion taken from the audience. Through a round-robin of improvised monologues, coordinated and conducted by the Monster Profiler, the cast not only spins together a thrilling neo gothic horror narrative, but also a brand new Monster of the Week. 

Inspiration: Director Aliza Pearl was inspired by her favorite monster hunting TV shows, comics, movies, and anime, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Hellboy, B.P.R.D., Abbott, Bitter Root, and Demon Slayer.
